UPC label generator

Print labels using your assigned UPC. Files stay in this browser until you download them.

Use a UPC assigned to your product. This tool creates labels. It does not issue or register product identifiers.

Code handling

Shown under the barcode on the sheet preview and the PDF. An SVG or PNG download is the barcode only.

Sheet setup

Nominal size is 0.330 mm. Main bars scale with the module and are not cropped.

Label sheet preview

US Letter, 10 labels (2 by 5). Each sheet holds 10 labels. No label is placed yet. Blank cells are empty.

Enter a code and update the preview. The sample in the example further down is a demonstration, not an identifier assigned by this site.

How the check digit is calculated

Use a UPC assigned to your product. This tool creates labels. It does not issue or register product identifiers. GS1 describes assignment separately from the arithmetic.

For the first 11 digits, count positions from the left starting at 1. Multiply the odd positions by 3 and add the even positions. The check digit is the amount that brings that sum to the next multiple of 10. A 12-digit code is accepted only when its last digit matches that result.

The ordinary retail drawing uses a module width of 0.330 mm, main bars 22.85 mm tall, and a quiet zone of at least 9 modules on each side. That is 113 modules, 37.29 mm from quiet zone to quiet zone. Retail module widths in the published range run from 0.264 mm to 0.660 mm, and the bar height scales with the module. A smaller label is refused instead of cropping the bars. Guard bars are drawn at the same height as the other bars. These figures follow published GS1 US sizing notes. Matching them here is not a GS1 compliance certificate, and this browser cannot verify a physical print.

Common questions

Does this give me a new UPC?

No. It draws a label for a code you already have, or fills in the check digit for 11 digits you already have. A code that passes the check is not a license or a product registration.

Should I enter 11 or 12 digits?

Enter 11 digits to fill in the check digit. Enter 12 digits to check a UPC-A you already have. Keep every leading zero.

Why is my code rejected?

The field needs 11 or 12 digits and a matching check digit. Letters, decimal points, and scientific notation are rejected. Spreadsheets sometimes drop leading zeros, so import that column as text.

Can I print a sheet of labels?

Print preview prints only the sheet on screen, at that sheet’s page size. Set the dialog to no margins and 100% or Actual size. Fit-to-page shrinks the bars. The downloaded PDF includes every sheet for label stock. This page does not certify a physical print.

Why might a printed barcode fail to scan?

A valid number can still print too small, too light, or with the quiet zone cut off. Scale, contrast, and a damaged label all change whether a scanner reads it. This page does not certify a print.

Can I reuse one UPC for different products?

Printing extra copies for the same product is a normal batch. Putting that code on a different product is a separate decision for whoever assigned the identifier.
